THE Wanganui Chronicle has scooped two international advertising awards ? for the second year in a row.

The Chronicle was the talk of the Pacific Area Newspapers' Publishers Association (PANPA) awards in Sydney this week when it won two major awards.

The awards were for best tactical use of newspapers for an Anzac Day poppy feature and best campaign for Doug Lacy.

The newspaper was also highly commended for best use of colour for an advertisement for Custom Blinds and best supplement/feature for the Calm After the Storm publication.

The wins follow last years success where the Chronicle won three PANPA awards.

Advertising manager Milton Haig said there were over 300 entries throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the Pacific and the Chronicle's win impressed everyone.

No other paper in any category featured at the awards as much as the Chronicle.

"People were saying it must be a great little paper. Bigger papers like the New Zealand Herald and Melbourne Age have far more resources than we do but through top design and attention to detail we're able to deliver effective business solutions to our readers and advertisers," he said.

Mr Haig said the Chronicle had strict standards its products had to reach and if something didn't measure up it was sent back to the drawing board.

Production manager Pam Dyhrberg said the awards proved Wanganui could compete with much bigger competitors.

"We consistently win awards at national level and now, for the second year in a row, on the international stage which is fantastic," she said.
