Families poured into the Castlecliff Domain from midday yesterday, eager to get into a big day for children.
The community day "For Our Kids" was a huge success from the word go. Children ran, laughed, shrieked and played in brilliant sunshine having a super good day.
A free sausage sizzle created long queues, along with a contest involving digging in the sand for a prize, a Castlecliff Idol competition, driftwood sculpture and lolly scrambles.
Organiser of the Idol contest Judy Kumeroa said more than 30 children entered and they had been all great.
One little girl had amazed everyone when she sang the Johnny Cash song Ring of Fire, she said.
"So we gave her a special prize because it was so far away from what all the others were singing."
