Lana Del Rey, Paradise

Last year was Lana Del Rey's year. So much was said about the former Lizzy Grant - much of it negative. But hey, at least they're talking about you. Born to Die: The Paradise Edition was released late in the year, including the original album and this eight-track extended player.

It's worth it for the opening track Ride alone, from the light intake of breath at the start to the lyrics that paint a picture to match the languid, summer evening, breeze-in-your-hair vibe of the song. Ultimately it's the song that proves Del Rey's image is a key factor in your enjoyment of her music.

Those with sensitive ears will want to miss the otherwise brilliant Cola and its vulgar opening lyrics, and Blue Velvet seems like an obvious choice of cover version.

But there are plenty of strong tracks, including the trippy Gods And Monsters, which more than make up for any shortfalls.
