Appeal to drivers on road works

The New Zealand Transport Agency is asking motorists on State Highway 3 between Wanganui and Whangaehu for patience when they encounter road works in the next two weeks.

The agency is advising road users to leave "a few minutes up their sleeve" for travelling between Wanganui and Whangaehu as there may be delays of up to 15 minutes.

"The southbound passing lane on this stretch of highway will be closed while around 5km of the road surface is being resealed and there will be a 30km/h speed limit in place," said Anthony Frith, media manager for the Central NZTA region.

"For your safety, the safety of our road crews and to prevent damage to your vehicle, please stick to the temporary speed limits.

"This will cause delays so please allow an extra 15 minutes for your journey to work, school or home."

The work has started.

"Once the resealing works finish, you will have a safer surface to drive on and the new surface will reduce the risk of skid-related crashes," Mr Frith said.
