Average summer ahead for Wanganui

Wanganui can expect an average summer this year, according to NIWA's national climate centre.

NIWA is predicting near average or below average temperatures for Wanganui over the next three months, combined with average rainfall, soil moisture levels and river flows.

NIWA said the equatorial Pacific Ocean is currently warmer than normal, but atmospheric conditions are neutral
[neither El Nino nor La Nina] and are likely to continue that way over summer.

Lower than normal pressure systems are expected south-east of the Chatham Islands over summer, bringing more south-westerly winds to New Zealand.
