Butters' win entrenches him as NZ's top junior

Wanganui teenager Kyle Butters continued his golden summer with victory in the grade 4 Wellington ITF tournament at the weekend.

Played at the Renouf Tennis Centre, Butters beat tough Liechtenstein player Thomas Weirather 6-3 6-2 in the final.

"Kyle came up big this week again, he is playing very big, hard hitting rallies, but doing it effortlessly and consistently," said Wilton Atkins, Tennis Wanganui development officer.

"This is what is setting him apart. It's his 66th match since December 15, 2012 and caps off a breakthrough ITF southern hemisphere summer.

"His world ranking and confidence will soar from this."

Butters will be back to play for the Wanganui senior representative team this Sunday for the Christie Cup defence against Manawatu."

Atkins said the teenager's hard work was paying off.

"The tournament had top talent from all over Asia and Australia as well as ranked players from Europe and the Americas.

"He has clearly entrenched himself as NZ's top junior player and will be dangerous in any of the toughest draws in Europe when he visits later this year."
