As the buoyant acoustic riffs of Drive By by the pop rock band Train filled Jubilee Stadium yesterday, seven young ladies searched for their own rhythmic perfection.

Wanganui Rollerskating Club's team Deju Vu were going through their paces as a precision challenge team ahead of the East and West Central regional championships, being held in Wanganui this coming weekend.

The team, ranging in age from nine to 14, will be joining together for the first time against squads from around the country in the precision challenge.

Using choreographed movements and routines, top marks are scored by groups for their footwork, style and remaining in-sync so no individual stands out.

Coached by Eileen Mills from Hastings, only two of the girls Emily Smith and Kasey Reyland have prior experience in this aspect of roller skating.

Training in the stadium which will host the event is a big advantage.

Emily Smith's cousin Hannah Smith, 16, will also be competing individually in the Junior Intermediate Grade for the first time a stacked level which includes several skaters who have represented New Zealand at world championship events.

The regionals are open to the public and free of charge on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3

The Deju Vu team is: Sara Gorringe, Kasey Reyland, Sharon-Rose Riddell, Emily Smith, Rachael Stratford, Kaci Sturzaker and Julia van Niekerk.
