CROSSING CAUTION: Police are reporting good driver behaviour at the start of the school year.PHOTO/FILE
A few weeks into the new school term and police have not received any complaints about drivers around schools.
At the start of the new school year, police called for increased driver awareness and consideration around schools, and so far there had not been any complaints, acting Senior Sergeant Andrew McDonald said.
But parents and drivers still needed to be cautious and patient, particularly around crossings before and after school, when there was traffic congestion and pedestrians.
Parents were reminded that there were other road users and they should not double park or drive in a manner frustrating to other drivers.
It was a busy time and often congested, but risks could be minimised with common sense and consideration.
Drivers frustrated by delays going past schools should consider taking another route where possible to avoid areas of congestion.
Mosston School, which is situated on a 70km/h road, has a 40km/h solar-powered speed limit sign which operates from 8.30am to 9.15am.
Mosston School principal Michelle Watson said the signs had been very successful in slowing traffic down outside the school and also aided parents in getting in and out of the school.
