A masterpiece of dances from Romeo and Juliet, Waltz of the Flowers and Les Sylphides by the Shirley McDouall School of Dance played to excellent houses at the weekend.
Mrs McDouall said the school had worked for three months to perform the three ballets, which was a change from the usual syllabus for her 180 students.
She said the ballet performances helped the students with their stage confidence, as most were apprehensive before, but by the end of the show they displayed more self-discipline.
Proceeds from the performances would go to the Sim Baby, Hospice Wanganui and Friends of the Royal Wanganui Opera house.
Mrs McDouall said the Friends were always helpful during the performances.
"They are at the front-of-house, built all the sets, and about 10 men worked in the flies manually working the stage sets."
She said they were wonderful at maintaining the Opera House, which was the envy of a lot of other cities.
