Wanganui District Council took to the Whanganui River Traders' Market at the weekend to continue its process of public consultation over Wanganui's heritage buildings.
Council and contract staff manned the stall at the Saturday market to talk to members of the public about what they think should happen to Wanganui's stock of heritage buildings, as many of them require earthquake-strengthening work.
Clive Aim from the council said the aim of the stall was to engage with the public. Participants were given a questionnaire to fill out.
"These comments and answers will be fed into the district plan review, which we're currently carrying out," he said.
The district plan review has been broken down into different sections, and the review of the built heritage section has just begun.
Mr Aim said there was a reasonable amount of interest in the future of Wanganui's heritage buildings.
" ... It was interesting the number of people who had moved to Wanganui because they were attracted to the heritage aspect of the city."
