A 23-year-old man has been arrested by Whanganui police and charged with aggravated robbery of the Puriri St TAB yesterday morning.

He will appear in the Whanganui District Court today.

Police said that about 10.40am a man presented a pistol and demanded money from a female staff member. A quantity of cash was taken.

Three members of the public were in the TAB at the time. No one was injured.

A witness walking along Puriri St opposite the TAB saw a man exit the building and realised his face was covered.

The TAB is about 100 metres from the Gonville Police Station.

Police would like to talk to any witnesses who saw anything suspicious. They should contact Detective Chay McArthur on 06 349 2827.
