Medals a bonus for table topper

Robert Dunn is more familiar with the Wanganui Masters Games than most.

Mr Dunn, 70, from the North Shore, has competed in table tennis at every Masters Games since the event began in 1989.

This time around he's competing in teams, doubles and singles in various age categories over four days of competition. "I used to compete for five days but I'm getting on a bit now, so I have a rest day in the middle," he said.

So far he's won a bronze medal but he doesn't play to win medals. "I just love playing table tennis. I don't mind if I win or not - if I get a medal, that's just a bonus."

Mr Dunn said he loves coming to Wanganui for the Games. "This is my holiday. It has a good social aspect to it, and I get to see old friends that I haven't seen since last time."

Mr Dunn has been playing table tennis for as long as he can remember, but he first joined a club in 1960. "My father played so it wasn't surprising that I started playing too."
