Moeke impresses in warm-up win

TK Moeke - yes, the name does ring a bell.

Way back in 2005 he was the tall, lively Poverty Bay centre who created problems in Gisborne on a day when Milton Haig's Wanganui rugby side had an average day and suffered the consequences.

Come last Saturday and the same man was a most interesting addition to the Wanganui side which beat Manawatu B 40-38 in the final Heartland Championship warm-up match in Palmerston North.

Now he's been named, along with fellow Waikato player Aaron Kelly (lock/No 8/6) in this season's Championship squad.

Moeke remembers that day - and he also notes that he had a few runs (six) for East Coast in 2006 in the NPC, scoring tries against North Otago, Thames Valley and West Coast.

On Saturday he impressed with his distribution, his pace and some strong tackling. but he did suffer a blow on the left hand which could be a worry.

The 27-year-old plays for the Melville Club.

"I'm getting a bit on now," joked Moeke. "I played some rep stuff in the age-groups and for the Colts (Waikato), and at the end of that I was loaned out to Poverty Bay for a couple of seasons, and East Coast in 2006.

And is he keen for a season with Wanganui?

"As keen as."
