One dead in Wanganui house fire

A person has died in a house fire in Wanganui today.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Maxwell Ave in Durie Hill early this afternoon. Looking from the city centre, smoke could be seen billowing skywards from behind the elevator tower.

Further details were not immediately available although emergency services did confirm a person had died.

There were a number of police still at the scene at 3.30pm.
