Thirty-seven images of the places and people of Wanganui - taken by Wanganui people - now adorn the entrance wall of the Trafalgar Square shopping complex.

The 130cm x 90cm images were put up on Saturday.

The Wall was the brainchild of Nick Gibbons and his company, Morrie Gibbons Signs, was one of the project's sponsors.

He said the idea was that ordinary people submit their best photo of "ordinary life" in the wider Wanganui region. A panel made up of staff from Morrie Gibbons Signs, the Wanganui Chronicle and Trafalgar Square chose the top 37 out of the 220 entries.

"We had a really good selection of photos," Mr Gibbons said.

"There's quite a cross-section of photos, from parks, the river, beaches, people and rural.

Mr Gibbons said he was "rapt" to see the final result. "I had an idea, but I didn't know how it was going to look until it actually went up."

The Wall will stay up for three years.

Mr Gibbons said he'd like to thank the project's sponsors: Wanganui Chronicle, Edmonds Painting, H&A; Print, Markhams Accountants, Total Span and Wanganui Toyota.
