Plea to speak up on road name change

Ruapehu-based residents of Whangaehu Valley Rd and Fields Track are being urged to be more proactive and have their say on the proposal to rename the roads. A public meeting held last week attracted 19 people but only five were from the Ruapehu area. The Waimarino-Waiouru Community Board will consider the issue on August 2.

Ruapehu District Council land transport technical services co-ordinator Andrea Nicol said it was important that Ruapehu residents had their say about any proposed name changes.

"As there is a Fields Track in both Ruapehu and Wanganui that don't join up, the proposal is to rename Ruapehu's Fields Track as Old Fields Track and rename Whangaehu Valley Rd as Fields Track," she said.

Residents are urged to complete and return the forms that have been sent out or email Andrea.nicol@ruapehudc.govt.nz.

The deadline is 5pm on Thursday.
