Posthumous award received

The widow of St John officer Brian Parkinson was presented with an award yesterday for the work he did in Christchurch following the 2011 earthquake.

Annette Parkinson and her family were at St John Wanganui to accept the award on behalf of her late husband who had served in Christchurch after the earthquake on February 22, 2011.

Silver bars, with black and red ribbon centres representing Canterbury colours, have been presented to all St John members who were deployed to Christchurch after the quake.

Regional operations manager Grant Pennycook presented the award, which Mrs Parkinson said made her feel sad and proud at the same time. "I feel very proud, I really do. But you know it's hard to believe it's been nearly a year now since Brian died on April 27 last year."
