Nine-year-old Jacob Hurst and his friends were all about orange at the YMCA Colour Wars, held at the YMCA headquarters in Grey St yesterday.

Organiser Dani Lebo said Colour Wars was a fun activity day for the 150 children taking part in the YMCA's holiday programmes in Wanganui, Palmerston North, Foxton and Feilding.

"The children are divided into five teams, each one with a colour representing one of the five YMCA values," she said.

They competed against each other in activities such as three-legged soccer, the big paint, giant word search and sponge slingshots.

Mrs Lebo said while teams received points for winning, they were also rewarded for team spirit and good sportsmanship.

Jacob said he had enjoyed the Colour Wars.

"We played tug o'war and it was fun," he said.
