If it has wheels - and most definitely an engine - then Dylan Hollenback is fascinated with it.
Year 11 Wanganui High School student Hollenback had a clean sweep of his 15 to 16-year-old group 125cc races on the final day of the Wanganui Motocross winter series, winning all three races.
Unfortunately he had too large a points deficit at the start of the day to overtake ultimate winner Jared Gwynn, but his effort, nonetheless, has been enough for he and supportive father Kim Hollenback to map out a campaign finishing up at the national championships in Woodville in January.
Much further down the track young Hollenback eyes the ultimate - competing in world championships and Australian nationals competition.
Pie in the sky?
Hollenback says he's very positive in setting goals.
He agrees he's a "bike nutter".
"Yes, anything with engines a wheels. I strip my bike down, oil it, and clean pretty much every nook and cranny after each race," said Dylan.
"I do some mountain-biking as well to get fit for this and also go to the gym - but generally, it's anything to do with an engine."
That includes taking automotive and engineering classes at school.
The plan is now - following the Wanganui races just finished - to ignore the final two rounds of the Taupo Winter Series, train for the Taupo Summer Series, then get back into the training for the Woodville Nationals.
His new 250cc bike is a major part of this.
