MetService is now suggesting the sunny, settled weather in Wanganui is likely to stay with us through to the end of this month at least.

Forecasters said a large anticyclone, building across New Zealand, will keep the weather mostly dry and settled across most of the country for this week.

Daniel Corbett, MetService media and communications meteorologist, said this was another fairly large anticyclone that will become slow moving over the country, bringing a long, mostly dry and settled spell of summer weather.

Mr Corbett said even with a large high in place, there may be morning and evening cloud in some places, and perhaps an isolated shower in a few coastal areas.

He said a weak front will move up over the country toward the end of the week, but any rainfall was likely to be modest.

With the big high sitting stationary, afternoon temperatures in some inland places could also climb up into the low 30s over the next few days.

"Another large high will then build across the country over the weekend, keeping the settled weather in place into the new week. This high may remain in place to the end of the month," Mr Corbett said.
