Visiting drivers strike trouble

Two out-of-town visitors were involved in separate car crashes in the Marton area on consecutive weekends.

The first accident involved a 24-year-old Tauranga woman.

The van she was driving went off the road on State Highway 3, near Makirikiri Rd on Saturday, February 11, about 8.20pm.

Marton police Constable Richard Gower said the woman appeared to have lost concentration, causing the vehicle to drift off to the left-hand side of the road.

She then over-corrected her steering and lost control, he said.

The van rolled on to its side and slid along the road to a stop.

The woman suffered minor injuries, and no one else was harmed in the incident.

Last Saturday, a 21-year-old Hamilton man was travelling on State Highway 3, when he crashed near Santoft Rd about 9am.

Mr Gower said the man drifted off to the left to avoid colliding with an oncoming car, and his vehicle hit the grass verge and slid.

The car slid for about 30m into a bank and came to a stop after spinning around 180 degrees.

Mr Gower said no one was injured in the accident.
