Wanganui put the heat on Marist

While Wanganui premier netball leaders Kaierau left their A game at home, they still qualified at the head of the top four playoff on Monday night.

But while Wanganui Car Centre Kaierau and Taihape scrambled their way along, with too many fingers and thumbs on a very cold night - Kaierau winning 41-32 after taking a long time to get in front - Marist and Wanganui High School turned on the magic in the night's first top four game.

In fact, the two contests were like chalk and cheese - WHS coming back at a resurgent Marist in the final two minutes to take a thrilling 61-58 win. The type of games were completely different - the Marist-WHS full of skilful netball, and very good shooting.

But Kaierau had an off night  - they were so different from the dominant side, which gave Marist a lesson the previous week, that one now has some doubts about the ultimate winner of this competition.

Ironically, last night's play will be exactly repeated in the draw in the semi-finals next week, Marist and Wanganui High School having another crack at each other, and Kaierau and Taihape go to it again.

Feature of the Marist WHS game was the interplay of the young WHS attack pairing of Shannon Goldsworth (GA) and Sharnece Greenfield.

Centre Tori Addenbrooke and goal shoot Lisa Muprhy stood out for the Marist side.

In the bottom four, Utiku  beat Collegiate 43-32, and Kaiwhaiki beat Ratana 61-49.
