Aramoho's young female club coxed four crew could make it into third place in today's New Zealand rowing finals if they can keep improving, says club captain Pat Spriggens.
Crews from Ian Weenink's Wanganui Rowing Academy had three chances of making finals yesterday, but managed only a second in their coxed four semifinal.
Bailey McIndoe, Clare Jordan, Abbey Stevenson and Kirby
Wilson, with cox Adele Geerkens, finished their semifinal in 7m 24.20s, far enough behind winners Wairau to suggest it will be very difficult turn that around.
Only the Timaru crew were apparently faster in the other semifinal.
Stevenson and Jordan were seventh of eight in a close club double semifinal at Laka Karapiro, and the same girls in the quad finished fifth in their semifinal, one place away from making the final.
Today they row their final, and Aramoho are also represented by the boys U19 heat runners, Tom Nyenhuis and Gus Pawson; the girls in the U19 four; the club's girls novice eight (sixth in the pre-run); and Central RPC members Chris Harris and Ben Hammond in the premier fours.
Rebecca Scown and Fiona Paterson are also in the final of the women's premier pairs.
Other members of the Central RPC to perform on a quiet day were U21 single Robbie Manson, who won his semi, world lightweight champion Duncan Grant, a comfortable qualifier in his races, and fellow singles flier Joseph Sullivan, who was third in his semifinal.
Today and tomorrow are much busier, although that could be interrupted by the aftermath of a front due to go over Karapiro overnight.
