The construction of Wanganui Collegiate's new all-weather hockey ground in Gray St is entering its final stage.

Depending on the weather, the asphalt will be laid this week and the astroturf rolled out in the final two weeks of the
 month.

The cost of the project is an estimated $1.1 million.

The school is still to settle on a name for the venue and choose an official opening day.

School and club games will be played there, though it's understood the local hockey body is keen to maintain Gonville Stadium as its main headquarters.
